The New Seven Wonders of the World was announced today, the first being the Great Wall in China. Other sites include the Taj Mahal in India, Rome’s Colosseum, Brasil’s Christ Redeemer, etc. spread out over the three continents of the world. Yet there were no strict voting procedures as the event was privately sponsored. Ballot stuffing is suspected and gems such as Angkor Wat lost in the process due to the location’s inaccessibility to the Internet.
Former American astronaut Neil Armstrong announced the first winner of the New Seven Wonders of the World, “Great Wall, China.”
The Official Declaration Ceremony was held in Lisbon, Portugal to great fanfare as each location was announced, “Petra, Jordan; Rome’s Colosseum.”
The seven winners are spread throughout the three continents with three situated in Asia, China’s Great Wall, India’s Taj Mahal, and Jordan’s famed Petra. One of the locations hail from Europe, Rome’s Colosseum, with the other three dispersed in South America, Mexico’s Chichen Itza, Brasil’s Christ Redeemer, and Machu Picchu left behind by Incan Emperor Pachcutec in Peru. The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt was listed as one of the honorary finalists.
Seven final locations emerged from twenty-one potential wonders as billions of voters showed their support for the beauties ranging from Jordan to Mexico. A Swiss Explorer believes that the survey for the New Seven New Wonders of the World springs from the fact that the Old Seven Wonders of the World are disappearing or have already disappeared, with the exception of the Pyramids of Giza.
However, due to the fact that one person could vote multiple times, there was severe ballot stuffing. Voting procedures weren’t stringent and restricted access to the Internet affected countries such as Cambodia, which couldn’t efficiently vote for Angkor Wat. With the integrity of the poll under question, furious campaigning went underway to educate the masses about the history, development and cultural value of the locations.
