A report from the Germany Times indicate test studies show Chinese college students to possess stronger memories than European college students. It continues questioning, “Does memorizing Chinese characters starting from childhood train the memories of the Chinese?”
The Germany Times informs, to preserve a piece of information, humans have to quickly and repetitively repeat the object of interest. A human’s short-term memory can only sustain 1.5-2 seconds. Using prolonged repetition, the information can be preserved within our memory. The Chinese have an advantage in this area because Chinese phrases and sentences can be expressed swiftly in a short amount of syllables.
Besides being short and succinct, every syllable in Mandarin has a meaning. In German, monosyllabic words rarely have just a complete meaning. Chinese students use the same method they use to memorize monosyllabic words with words with numerous syllables.
