To strengthen trade ties between China and Russia’s ever-expanding market, the Turkish Ministry of National Education has arranged for Mandarin and Russian to become part of public high school curriculum. Presently, only Ankara University and a handful of national and private universities offer Mandarin courses.
Officials from the Turkey Ministry of National Education state Minister of Education, Marietta Giannakou, has authorized Mandarin and Russian to be included as elective courses in public high school in the next school year (2004-2005). However, this proposal still need to receive the approval of the cabinet council before officially coming into effect.
